Please wear the maroon or orange T-shirt on Friday when you arrive at the airport. It doesn't matter which one. It would be nice to have two colours at the same time. Dress comfortably. If you don't want to carry your shoes, wear them. If not slippers or sandals are fine.

See you all at the airport. Sms Miss Wong or myself it you have anymore queries.

Things to note 2 days before Outreach to Cambodia....

Hi all,

The day is approaching and we need to get ourselves prepared.

We've come so far and the least we can do is to prepare ourselves against the expected problems and try to solve any unexpected events with our existing IQ +EQ :)

Things to note:

Health - drink more water + have enough rest before trip;
Pack your luggage properly, don't miss out any stuff deemed NECESSARY ;
Those in-charge of the Games proposal + Happy Half-Hour proposal, pls remember to get your materials needed for the trip ready;
Lastly, remember your passport (+ 1 printed copy), actual + printed copy of visa (non-S'porean), 1 passport-sized photo... (some of these we have 1 printed copy from u already, u keep 1 more with u just in case).

If I missed out any important information, please email all of us and let us know :) Ty.

Cheerio,
Ms A. Wong

Participants yet to go for medical checkups

hey,

there are still some of you who have yet to go for the inoculation and checkup. The clinic called me up and informed me that Ivan, Shawn Cheng, Yolanda and Ryan have yet to "visit" them.
Please, amidst your very busy schedule, spare a thought for yourself and get protected from any diseases you may encounter in Cambodia......Be responsible

Notebook (Journal)

Hi all,

Please equip yourself with a journal or notebook of sorts. No need to be too big, too expensive. Just portable and reasonably sized for writing. This is because I would like you all to pen your experiences and learning points all throughout the trip.

It is important that you keep your thoughts flowing throughout the entire trip. Allow the experiences to touch you and affect your consciousness. Make this trip a meaningful one for yourself by taking away precious nuggets of discoveries that you have made of yourself. So that when you take out this journal again sometime down the journey of your life, you can recall what this trip has taught you.

Please do some "homework" for this Wednesday before you come for the debriefing on Fundraising. Think about the good points as well as the problems you have faced and how it can be rectified. If you're going to do this all over again, how would you change your track. Think about what this fundraising has taught you. We'll do some sharing on Wednesday. Teachers included.

I beg all of you, put some thought into this activity. Thanks.

30 May 2007 - Compulsory Session

Dear all,

Since no has one replied about the movie, I'm going to have to put the movie on the same day as the First Aid Course. Therefore on the 30th May, these are the things that are going to happen:

0900hrs - 1200hrs - First Aid Course (hopefully it ends earlier); Venue - Innospace
1200hrs - 1300hrs - Lunch
1300hrs - 1330hrs - Briefing for Trip, Final Coordination; Venue - To Be Announced
1330hrs - 1400hrs - Fundraising Debrief
1400hrs onwards - Movie screening (The Killing Fields)

If you have a better suggestion, please do share it. If not, the above will be the default programme for that day. It is imperative that you do attend this session. Thanks.

Basic First Aid Session

Hello all, please take note of the following date :

30 May 2007
Basic First Aid Session
Venue: Innospace
Time: 0900 hrs

I need to screen a movie for all to watch. It's called 'The Killing Fields'. It's a serious film but worth watching before we leave for Cambodia. It's 141 mins long though. Question is, do you all want to watch it on the same day? Or another day during the week of departure.

Please feedback.

Just some nuggets of information -
The Cambodian actor, Haing S. Ngor, who played the photographer in this film survived the Khmer Rouge and moved to USA as a refugee in 1980 but on 25 Feb 1996, he was murdered. He had won an oscar for his role in this film.

SHIRT STUFF.

Shirt stuff,

To ALL THOSE WHO SOLD T-SHIRTS yet did NOT record them down, PLS look for MINGJIN to give her your records. cos the reality is that.. the total no. of shirts n $ collected DONT TALLY, and there are cases of people telling me that they had bought n paid n collected, yet names are NOT reflected on the lists.
THANK YOU.

Fundraising – Beach balls

Hello all! This is what Olivia and I came up with.

For those who weren't there during the meeting, the idea of this is to get people to ‘donate’ balls to the kids by donating money. Students are encouraged to write their well wishes on the balls as well.

Price of ball:
- $3-4 dollars, for the one in the picture below.
- Size is about 40cm in diameter

Other cost:
- Markers – about $3 for paint markers (which are more lasting), $1 for normal black permanent markers

Donations:
- Any amount
- Minimum of $1.50 to sign on the ball

We intend to test the response to this idea using 5 balls first (test period of 3 days). If the response is good we'll buy more balls to a total of 25, to signify the 25 of us going on the trip. Estimated profit per ball is $45.

Manpower needed:
- Booth under LT1 (in-charge of collecting money and facilitating the process of getting signatures) - 2 people
- Mobile (carrying a tin can and the ball with markers to get support from people around the canteen and study areas) – 2 pairs at a time

Donations will be collected during various breaks and lunches. So all, please email me (cwenshan@gmail.com) the time of your breaks and lunches from next Monday to next Wednesday (14th to 16th May) by Friday night please. I'll allocate the timeslots.

Thanks! (:

Inoculation 2

Again for Miss Wong..

Hey all,

It's me again! I know that some of you need to test blood and for the ladies, if you want to purchase certain medication, the school will not bear the costs of these items.

Only the necessary jabs required and the malaria pills[oral] needed by the individual will be paid for by the school.

For those who need to purchase additional medication, especially the ladies, please consult the doctor before buying.

Regards,
Ms A. Wong.

Inoculation

From Miss Wong who has problem putting this up.

Hey all,

You're able to get your jabs from today onwards from Bedok Medical Centre just opposite TJC (You cross at the traffic lights, it's somewhere on your left, after the first coffee-shop and New Center.....).

It operates from
9am - 12noon,
2.30pm - 4.30pm and
7pm - 8.30pm.

Just tell them that you're from TJC, going for the Cambodia trip.

Also, ask for malaria pills.

In case you forget the types of jabs you require, pls refer to your email.

Btw, you needn't pay for the jabs on the spot. It will be billed directly to the school. However, please remember to get the medical checkup form signed by the doctor and submit to me. My letterslot no. 76.

Once again, remind your teammates to get inoculated!

FOUR more WEEKS!!!

Gosh this is getting to me! It's four weeks more and things are still crawling along.

People please, time to pick up the pace on planning and fundraising. We've still got some distance to go to meet our fundraising target. The T-shirt needs to be printed this week and you've got to do aggressive selling in mid week 9 to 10. Otherwise I don't know how you're going to get the T-shirts sold on time.... seriously it would be *kua kua*, I tell you....

Passport Validity and Other Information

URGENT

Dear All,

This pretty urgent. It's regarding passport validity and visa requirements. Please get back to me asap, especially those whose information are not clear.

Please let me or Miss Wong know if you have already applied.

Passport validity

Most notable - Mingjin, Ruishan, Sonia, Kang Yu, Olivia, Christal, Charlena,Wen Shan, Shawn Teo

(ii) Validity - Your passports must have at least 6 months validity from the date of departure to enter another country. If not, you would be refused entry into Cambodia. Please again go to ICA to renew your passport if you don't have the above mandatory minimum period.

Davin: "KACANG PUTEH $1!!!"
Annoucement: "Kacang Puteh going at half price~! 50¢ only"
"Marshmellows... buy one get one free!!!"

Yes~ it was an enjoyable day yesterday... although not all members were down, but the put together effort of everyone was significant enough from the sales[davin... don't be too disappointed ya~]

the packing of food was fun! folding cones, throwing in crackers and nuts... =D
but to the girl that went niam niam niam niam niam: YOU ARE DAMN NOISY! COMPLAIN AND COMPLAIN! WAH PIANG EH! SHOO~!

other than that everything went well... almost as planned =)
The selling part was difficult...

-Flashback-

Student1: "My wallet is not with me."
Student2: "I bought already...*shuns*"
Student3: "Sick... sorry..."
Student4: "I BUY ALOT ALREADY~!! I BUY ALOT ALREADY!!" [>.<]
Student5: "Sorry, no money... later i borrow then i go and buy~"...

[I'm not saying they are giving excuses okay... just recalling things i keep hearing yesterday... not trying to mean anything or pin point anyone! don't be mistaken or offended]

BUT~ we still made the effort of going around to sell, provided services like choosing one particular kind of nuts or crackers or combination of some, or just buying the ready-prepared ones...some went around bugging their friends [good job!] while others went around "pleading" schoolmates to buy =x

teachers were good target too! special thanks to the teacher that donated $10 though you didn't buying anything at all and the principal too. thanks to all students and teachers that supported us too in one way or another...

finally... credits to Davin for screaming your throat till it burst to sell the kacang putehs...ms wong for coming over to help sell them...and Mr kao who keeps dropping by to disturb =x [heh. I'm just kidding]

last but not least ~ OCIP CAMBODIA WHOOSH!!!let's look forward to car wash. it's definitely gonna be fun~ remember to bring extra clothes...[and undergarments just in case]

happy labour day all~ enjoy!!!

-JuN-

Back to the homepage.

What's this about?

This June, 23 students accompanied by 2 teachers will embark on a service learning trip to Kampong Chan, in the province of Prey Veng, Cambodia. There, they will put together their efforts to help paint two classroom blocks, furnish a library, interact and teach the children and perhaps assist in the construction of wells for the community.

Anything to say?
